Soft small face, rounded eyes, small hands grabbing her hair, the pink tender mouth blowing raspberries...Jiang Chuwei’s heart melted quickly. When she saw he was going to put her hair in his mouth, she quickly grew it away from him, ‘No…’

When he saw there was nothing to chew on, his little face scrunched up immediately. The small hand squeezed into a fist, and his cheeks were puffing out raspberries.

Chuwei hesitated to come for a long time. Finally, she got on the carriage and came to see him. Yongfu led her to the room that they were staying. When she saw Xiahou was not there, she couldn’t help but relax; then she saw the cradle next to the bed.

Her heart leapt nervously as she slowly walked up to the cradle. She held her breath as her child came into view.

He was awake, but he was not crying. He was by himself in the cradle, looking about, kicking his chubby legs. (Zuben: Who else is going to be in there; Xiahou?) When he saw her, he stared at her with his large eyes, unafraid.

She smiled and slowly reached out to poke his chubby face.

His powerful little hand reached out and grabbed her finger, she pulled back her finger with a little pop, and his little fingers clutched the air. His chubby legs kicked out excitedly and his arms reached out and waved up and down, wanting to be held.

She reached in and picked him up close. She could smell a thick milky scent from him. He was in her arms spitting bubbles at her. He blinked his large eyes at her.

Once he was in her arms, she was reluctant to let go.

‘Baby, I am Mommy...’ she said as she sat down on the bed and rocked him. Her eyes filled with heat. Until she held her child, she did not realise what she had abandoned.

Regret? Of course, she regretted it.

She regretted leaving without him. Why did she leave? When he was in her stomach, she talked to him everyday. He was her treasure but she used him to make a deal; she was truly terrible.

‘Baby, I’m sorry.’ she whispered nuzzling her baby. The tears in her eyes could not help but fall. She really missed him!

‘Mommy will never leave you again.’ she said. Her treasure she had grasped, she will not let him go.

‘What about me?’ a masculine voice said. She hadn’t realised Xiahou Yin had entered the room and had come to stand before her; listening to her talk to her baby.

Chuwei was shocked; she quickly wiped away her tears and nervously rose.

She hadn’t seen him for half a year; he hadn’t changed much, still so beautiful. Staring at his eyes made her afraid; she could not help but not meet his eyes.

‘How come you're here?’ She didn’t ask him how she knew where she lived. The fact that he was here made her realise he had been monitoring her. But he had never appeared till now.

Xiahou did not care about her escape. He stared at her and could not bear to look away.

She was still as thin as ever, although her face was round. But the ordinary face was still the same, her figure was still flat and unattractive.

Yet, he found himself staring at her most greedily.

Seeing her, he regretted it.

Why did he let her go? What did it come to? She lived well but he was tortured; it was really unfair.

‘I missed you.’ So he came.

Her heart leapt in her chest and her face fell even lower, ‘What is his name?’ she asked, changing the topic, pretending not to have heard him.

‘Xiahou Lin: Kirin’s horn.’ he replied as he moved closer to her step by step.

‘Oh!’ she exclaimed when she noticed his closeness. Chuwei’s heart beat faster. She held her baby tighter and moved back.

‘That...Xiahou Yin…’

‘Yes…?’ He came closer and leaned over her.

Chuwei closed her eyes and said, ‘Can I keep my baby?’

He stilled and his black eyes turned dangerous, ‘What do you mean?’

‘Su Xiurong is dead. There are other concubines who can have children for you. So, give my child back to me…’ Noticing his anger, Chuwei’s voice got smaller and smaller.

Xiahou stared at her aghast, was this woman trying to kill him? She dared request this kind of thing. He set her free for half a year and her courage grew? Or did he think he would continue to indulge her?

This heartless, hateful woman; she only wanted her son. And what about him? Did she not care?

Xiahou glared at his son, envying him. Xiahou took him from her arms. (Zuben: Don’t be jealous of your son, ah)

‘Ah! What are you doing?’ she cried trying to get her baby back. But he blocked her and put the baby back in the cradle. He turned back to her and rudely picked her up and pressed her down on a table.

‘Xiahou! What are you doing?’ Chuwei tried to push him off her, but seeing his eyes up close, she got so scared and she leaned away. She did dare look at him.

‘Look at me!’ he said refusing to let her escape him, ‘Do you want to force me to hide my son?’

‘I don’t want...’ she cried. She opened her eyes, and finally looked at him directly. She saw the heat in his eyes. The tension between them made her heart beat fast.  

‘Tell me!’ he said leaning closer to her. His black eyes stared at her as though they wanted to consume her; not letting her avoid his gaze,

‘Do you even think of me?’

‘I…’ she began to say, but she could not spit out, the two words “I don’t.” Truly, on seeing him, she had wanted to run into his arms and hug him.

If it were not for reason, and shame, she really would have rushed into his arms.

But she could not be brazen; she had told him she did not want him, she had taken the initiative to leave. She had been the first to abandon everything. She even dared to tell him she wanted her son, but she could not dare to face him or dare tell him she missed him. She had become timid.

He watched her bite her lip and resist the urge to hold on him. He could see she was struggling with herself.

He sighed; this woman, what should he do with her?

‘Wei, tell me you missed me.’ He coaxed tenderly, he could not bear to see her ashamed. Chuwei looked at him and saw his eyes soften.

This man...why did he spoil her so?

There was a surge in her chest, as a smile fought its way out. She said shyly, ‘I missed you.’

When he heard the words he wanted to hear and saw her smile, Xiahou’s heart softened even more, ‘Say it again…’

‘Xiahou, I missed you. I wanted to…’ the rest of what she wanted to say was lost for he sealed her lips with a kiss.

‘Hn~...don’t…’ Chuwei moaned. She covered her mouth with her hands to hold back her groans, as he pulled open her clothes. She was exposed layer by layer. He left her dudou on, but ripped off her drawers. He pumped her petals with two fingers, and love juice was quickly stirred up. His hot lips sucked on the fleshy petals, and with the tip of his tongue he licked over the open seam. Her legs were up against his shoulders, and the pleasure swept through Chuwei. Crystal like droplets of tears hung from her eyes.

She jumped off the table to escape but she was caught fast. He picked her up and tossed her into the bed and pulled down the canopy.

‘Yongfu!’ Xiahou roared.

Yongfu immediately entered the room.

‘Take the Prince.’

‘Yes.’ Yongfu replied and kept his gaze forward; he did not dare looking in the direction of the bed. He lifted ultra-small master into his arms. Even if he overhead the ecstasy of the Niangniang, he did not hear a thing and quickly left the wing.

‘N~ ah…’ Chuwei threw back her head and arched her back as his thick burly desire pressed against her flower. He grabbed her round buttocks and thrust in deep. Xiahou stopped. His red eyes stared at her, taking in her crying face. She looked like she’d been wronged, but it made him want to have her more.

This demonic woman!

He kissed her wickedly and stopped her crying. He wanted to eat her. In one bite, he would eat even her bones.

After venting their passion, Chuwei was lying on Xiahou’s body. Her eyes were closed as she listened to his heartbeat. He stroked her legs and back, and her sweaty damp hair. The two quietly enjoyed their closeness after their lovemaking.

‘Your hair is shorter,’ the long hair that fell down to her hips was now at her back

‘It was too long and troublesome.’ She said sleepily. Lovemaking made her sleepy and her voice was hazy after.

He wasn’t surprised she would flout tradition and cut her hair shorter. He had never thought she would be bound by tradition.

He remained quiet curling his fingers in the silk of her hair. Just as she was about to fall asleep, he said,

‘I dismissed the harem.’

What?! Chuwei woke up instantly. She sat up and stared at him in amazement, ‘What are you talking about?’

He smiled and pulled her back down, so she could continue to be close to him. He liked stroking her hair.

‘Xiahou…’ she lifted her head up to speak but he pressed her back down.

‘Aside from the ones I wanted to stay, the rest; I arranged for them to return to society and gave them enough silver that they can life in comfort all their lives.’

When he announced his decision, he cause panic in the harem. The ministers were shocked; they asked him to reconsider his decision.

‘And I have declared to the world that in this life I will only have one queen. She will be the only one special to me and be the only one in the harem.’ He looked at her with a gentle expression and asked, ‘Wei, are you willing to return to the palace with me and be my queen?’

Sensing the tension in her body, he did not insist on it.

‘Or, don’t return to the palace, at least, stay close to me - back in the city? You can live outside the palace. Still living freely, but let me see you. Is that okay?’

His tone was pleading and tentative. He was the Emperor, but he was showing humility to her.

Chuwei’s eyes went hot; that this man could put down his pride and dignity of the king to this point, ‘Why?’ why would he do this? Was she worth it?

‘I don’t know.’ He had asked himself why many times; for a woman, he could not even have self respect, ‘All I do is think about you. All I want is you.’

He didn’t try to forget her, he didn’t try to fall in love with other concubines, she was always on his mind.

He was a fool for her, and he could not escape it.

She did not speak but quietly remained with her face in his chest.

He did not press her. He ran his fingers through her silky hair, waiting for her answer. He did not know how long he waited, when he heard felt her mouth move against his skin and her muffled voice said, ‘As long as I am with you, you will not touch another woman.’

‘Hao,’

‘If you fall in love with someone else, let me know. If such a thing should be, I want to leave with everything that belongs to me, even my children.’

‘Hao.’

‘You have to love me even when I am mean to you. Even when I am angry, and scold you and beat you or bite you, you can’t defy me; you have to coax me and make me happy.’

Then finally she whispered against his chest while her finger made circles on his skin, ‘I will return to the palace and be your Empress.’

He smiled; it was gentle and happy-

 Epilogue

 The Emperor suddenly brought back a woman and announced he was making her Empress. This shocked the court, the nobility and the commoners. Even the Empress Dowager came out to see what kind of woman her son had brought to the palace. It was not possible for the Emperor to make such a decision.

When she saw Jiang Chuwei, she was stunned to tears.

The woman looked exactly like Rong Er, she suddenly felt relieved. She had thought her son would not be able to forget Rong Er and would bring her back.

When the ministers saw that the woman the Emperor chose looked like their deceased Empress, they were also moved they thought the Emperor was a really affectionate monarch.

The opposition disappeared after they saw Jiang Chuwei.

She was blessed into the palace by the country and became Empress.

She also became the only woman of the harem. She did not live in Fengyi Palace, instead, lived in the Emperor’s palace; getting along with the Emperor, sleeping in the same bed and being very much in love. Serving her were just Xia Xi and Chun Xi.

Everything was perfect except-

Chuwei glared at the imperial doctor and said through gritted teeth, ‘You repeat that.’

The doctor was a little scared, but he remained courageous and replied, ‘Congratulations to the Empress; you are pregnant and you have been for more than three months.’

More than three months?! She had only returned to the Palace for three months but she was pregnant for more than three months?!

Did this mean it was from that time? Damn it! How could there be no condoms in this world. (Zuben: Even if there were, would either of you have thought to use it?)

Chuwei was so angry that she wanted to kill someone. She turned to the guilty culprit.

Xiahou Yin was of course aware. He waved off the doctors and came back to bed, he raised a flattering smile, ‘Wei Wei…’

‘Go away!’ Chuwei was so angry she threw her pillow at him, ‘Xiahou Yin! You bastard! If it weren’t for you, I would not be pregnant!’ (Zuben: Once again, it takes two to tango)

Dodging the pillow, he hugged her, ‘Didn’t you enjoy yourself? No wonder you’ve been more responsive lately; so tight, I want to stay in your body for a life time and not come out.’

Chuwei’s face went red, he actually dared to say that, ‘You are a metamorphosis.’

She couldn't believe he could say that! It wasn’t embarrassing to lose. (Zuben: *shrug* I have a cold)

Although Xiahou didn’t know exactly what “metamorphosis” meant, but he could guess the meaning, ‘Well I am only perverted to you.’ He said with an evil laugh, his fingers fondling her breasts. No wonder he had thought her breasts were getting fuller. It turned out she was pregnant.

‘It looks like these next few months will be fun,’ he said remembering the happiness he had enjoyed during her last pregnancy.

Chuwei yelled at him, she was so angry she didn’t know what to say anymore. This guy’s face was so thick he could repel bullets.

‘Colour embryo! Go away!’ she batted his hands away trying to keep him from touching her.

‘No.’ He replied, not letting go. He wrapped around her like sticky candy, disregarding her evasions and kissed her little mouth.

‘Hmm no…’

‘Wei, let’s have a daughter this time!’ He wanted a daughter like her. He would definitely pamper her, let her be as arrogant as her mother so she could give men a headache.  (Zuben: Well arrogant mothers don’t give birth to arrogant daughters. They tend to get OP’d by their mothers)

Chuwei glared at him but did not turn away from his kiss. After a while, she became soft and let him kiss and tease her.

She gasped and stared at him with watery eyes; her little hand grabbed his arm and bit into the skin.

He did not speak but let her bite him.

She let go and licked the tooth marks on his arm like a kitten. (Zuben: Weirdos)

‘This time, let me bite your arm again.’ She said; who taught him to get her pregnant?

‘Alright.’

‘I want to see my baby, you can’t send it away.’ She hadn’t forgotten the heartbreak of not being able to see her baby after he was born.

‘Alright.’

‘Even if it is a girl, you must love me the most.’ This was the most important thing.

He smiled and kissed her lovingly, ‘Hao.’

He will love her for a lifetime.

Oh I forgot to add my final thoughts!!! 😱

I really liked Jiang Chuwei because she wasn't wishy washy.
I know it might apall you readers but I liked that she kept her conviction and left after the baby was born.
No it wasn't right, but sometimes you have to do right by yourself even if it seems misguided and you also reserve the right to change your mind.
It's a romance novel of course she's going to return but Xiahou needed to realise she meant a lot to him as well and wasn't just the lastest in the line of fuck dolls.
Also despite Chuwei's 'I'm so dark, why would anyone be attracted to me...?' yada yada; Xiahou never once said it was a turn off.
Neither did Wu Fuzi. In life, I hope us single people out there who want to be attached will meet the right someone who is attracted to us despite our self-managed flaws. People do!
