Two is Company; Four is a Party:
The discussion eventually moved to
Zhengqing’s living room.
Huizhu told Wu Fei she was
currently discussing the start up with her friends, because he was an
enthusiastic kind of person, he came to join them as soon as he could. Huizhu
felt relieved that someone young like Wu Fei was earnest, and she knew his
working ability was also strong. In Cui Yingwei, he displayed quick-wittedness,
shrewdness and he had his own opinions. Before she left, Cui Yingwei found
excuses to praise Wu Fei several times in front of everyone, and usually asked
him along to drink, but Wu Fei usually rejected Cu Yingwei although very
politely.
This made Huizhu worry a bit. When
she was ending her time with their company, she spoke to Wu Fei, knowing that
her resignation would affect him, advising him about dealing with Cui Yingwei. And
not suffer a loss because he was swayed by personal feelings.
At the time when she resigned, Wu
Fei asked if she has any future plans, but she did not tell him right away,
thinking the future would sort itself out. Although she did not regret helping
Wu Fei, she had been forced to leave her place. In her heart, she was somewhat
depressed and disappointed, but she did not want to lose face before him as his
boss. The enterprise was showing improvement after a few hiccups.
She did not expect, however, while
running around, asking for help, looking for helpful networks; that Wu Fei would
know about her new enterprise and would also want to join.
Talking about the business in the
restaurant seemed inconvenient so Zhengqing proposed they reconvene at his
house. Huizhu gave Wu Fei the address. They quickly ate and headed back to the
house. On the way, Yin Ting went to a roadside convenience shop swept a big bag
of full of snacks, and happily ran back to the car,
Zhengqing and Huizhu stared at her
in puzzlement,
‘How can there be no snacks?’ she asked
boisterously.
They’d never thought of snacks
during a meeting. (Zuben: It’s an informal one, isn’t it?)
Yin Ting laughed and said, ‘It’s
the first time I am participating in such a meeting, I feel a bit nervous. I
feel like I have risen up several points in the making of an elite.’
Zhengqing and Huizhu didn’t know
what to say to that. This was a very special investor.
‘May I eat in the car?’ Yin Ting
asked staring greedily at a bag of beef jerky.
‘But you just ate!’ Zhengqing said
incredulous, ‘And we’ll soon get back to the house.’ But he sighed and said,
‘Just be careful and don’t get any crumbs on the seats.’ (Zuben: Zhengqing,
there is food belly and snack belly.)
‘Oh,’ Yin Ting decided to be
patient, ‘I’ll eat when we get to the house.’
Huizhu raised an eyebrow at the two
of them; were they being lovey-dovey? It seemed so, even if they didn’t seem to
realise it. Unexpectedly, she wasn’t sad about it.
‘Zhu Jie, who is Wu Fei?’ Yin Ting
asked, she hadn’t been quiet for even up to two minutes before she wanted to
gossip.
Huizhu explained who Wu Fei was and
his circumstances. If Wu Fei decided to work with her, Yin Ting as an investor
had a right to know. Yin Ting listened and nodded, ‘Sound good, he sounds very
capable.’
Zhengqing gave her a sceptical
look, you don’t know him yet, but are already praising him seriously?
Ying Ting saw Zhengqing’s
expression and thought he was jealous, ‘Of course, our Qiu Zong is still the
most super outstanding person.’ She said patting his shoulder.
Huizhu laughed, Zhengqing was
embarrassed and caught her gaze in the rear-view mirror. Why was she laughing,
he was really good.
Shortly after they arrived at
Zhengqing’s place, Wu Fei arrived.
Yin Ting thought him a fair refined
looking young man.
He seemed greeted everyone
politely.
He told Huizhu that he thought it
had been a good idea to resign, working with a person of such bad character
felt like a waste of energy and time. Moreover, Cui Yingwei was blocking
Huizhu’s efforts. When he also blacklisted her in their industry, Wu Fei wanted
to resign immediately, but realised he might face problems moving to another
company. He decided to wait on Mao Huizhu first before making a move. He’s been
working carefully; he’d believed that Huizhu would not do anything for a few
years. Sure enough, Huizhu was starting her own company, so he came to
sincerely ask for a position.
‘I can do anything. Your company
just started, so you’ll definitely need someone experienced like me. I am happy
to run errands, drink with new partners, perform miscellaneous duties and I am
very good with people. Zoe Jie, ‘ he said, ‘I know start periods are always
hard, so you don’t have to pay me, I have saved very well this last few years
and I can help with payments. I really just want to work with you.’ (Zuben:
These people and their long speeches)
He seemed sincere, Yin Ting thought
to herself, as she watched from the sidelines eating beef jerky, while staring
at Wu Fei’s face.
Huizhu thanked Wu Fei. She didn’t
stand on ceremony with him; she did need a capable person like him as a
partner. So she dived in and outlined her business plan and what she had done
so far.
Wu Fei looked like he was listening
attentively to Huizhu, Yin Ting watch Wu Fei.
‘Xiao Ting,’ Zhengqing called
interrupting her thoughts, ‘could you make some tea, please?’
‘Sure,’ Yin Ting replied, but she
was reluctant, glancing at Wu Fei as she left. (Zuben: Someone is jealous.
Fufufu)
In the kitchen, she realised this
was not her home, ah. Usually, Zhengqing made tea for her, so she did not know
where anything was. Yin Ting went back to the living room to ask Zhengqing
where the tea was, but they were deep in discussion. Zhengqing was talking
about something or another rather seriously. He looked eloquent and confident.
Really graceful.
A serious man is the most handsome.
(Zuben: Nope he is a stick in the mud.)
Yin Ting squatted in the kitchen
door to see Zhengqing’s face clearly as he spoke.
Ah, he was so handsome the more she
looked at him. He had such a mature capable aura. It was a pity she did not
have a camera in hand, she thought, he was so handsome and sparkly right now.
She wanted pictures so she can go home and droll over them.
Zhengqing finished speaking and
noticed Yin Ting crouching at the kitchen door like a little sneak.
She giggled and crooked her finger
at him. Zhengqing excused himself and came to her. Yin Ting looked up as he approached; she felt
like she’s reeled him in on a hook and line, she could not help but laugh.
‘You tired?’ he asked as he came
closer. Yin Ting rose from her crouch with a smile. Zhengqing was infected with
her laughter also smiled, ‘Are you happy all the time; day and night?’ he
asked.
‘Even in my dreams,’ she said in
reply, her smile even brighter.
Zhengqing shook his head marvelling
at her, ‘Why were you crouching at the door?’
‘I don’t know where the tea is,’
she could not tell him that she was ogling him.
Zhengqing took her into the kitchen
and pointed to a cupboard, ‘It’s in there.’
Yin Ting bounced past him to the
cupboard, ‘You go back, I will get the tea ready.’ When she opened the cupboard
she realised there were two layers and the pot was on the top shelf. She was a
short young lady, so even on tip-toes she could not reach it. A long arm
stretched from behind her and plucked the tea pot.
‘Thank you,’ she said turning around,
her face a little red. He was close enough that she could smell his cologne,
but she did not step back, she looked up at him.
He did not step back either, he
lowered his head and whispered to her, ‘Wealth is not forever, invest
carefully. Please bear these two points in mind.’
Yin Ting was touched, she replied
quietly, ‘Don’t worry. I am not that casual a person. There have been other
friends who wanted me to invest in their start-ups, I did not agree. I am happy
to give the money but I also have to be assured a return. Some of them got
angry and broke ties with me because of this. My parents worked hard to give me
these assets, so I must treat it well. I know I have only met Zhu Jie a few
times, but I feel she is trust worthy. She had you as a friend in need, and you
seriously consider the people you mix with. Even though you aren’t dating, you
are also determined to help her, and that proves to me that she deserves my
assistance. Even though she left her job, her former colleague has also
defected to help her, not wanting anything. This proves to me that she is worth
investing in.’
As Zhengqing listened to her, he
realised that she wasn’t as impulsive as she appeared to be,
‘I don’t mean about Zoe, of course
Zoe is worthy of help. I meant in general. Later when you get asked about
something like this again, you must think about it deeply and not be impulsive,
especially with unfamiliar people.
‘Alright,’ Yin Ting said nodding
hard. She didn’t find any objections to his words.
‘Wu Fei, although he is Zoe’s former
colleague, you and I don’t know him very well, so we still have to be a bit cautious.’
Zhengqing had noticed Yin Ting staring at Wu Fei, even crouching at the kitchen
door to peep. His heart felt sad and prickly.
At the topic of Wu Fei, Ying Ting became
a bit spirited, ‘Let me tell you something,’ she said to Zhengqing
conspiratorially, ‘I think Wu Fei likes Zhu Jie.’
Zhengqing was surprised for a
moment, how was that possible? He looked out at the pair in the living room.
Huizhua and Wu Fei were discussing the company thing. Zhengqing shook his head
and turned back to her, ‘I don’t see it.’ (Zuben: You’re a dude)
‘I am not wrong,’ Yin Ting said
waggling a finger at him, ‘I have eyes that are good at discovering love.’
(Zuben: *Vomits rainbows*)
Zhengqing laughed, ‘Oh, you white
radish lady,’ he teased. How can she say she was good at discovering love, and
she had not found out how she felt about him?
‘Really? Wanna bet?
‘It would not work,’
‘Why can’t it work?’
‘Wu Fei is several years younger
than her.’
‘What does that have to do with
anything? Zhu Jie is very beautiful and smart, she doesn’t look that old. And
Wu Fei is good looking and mature, I think they would make a good match.’
Zhengqing suddenly had a headache,
‘Don’t go causing chaos. Let them be honest business partners. You can’t mix
pleasure and work.’
‘Of course, I won’t. I’m very
sensible. I am just telling you what I discovered. In the end, it is their
business. I also know that such feelings have no place in business and their
friendship is more important, especially now that Zhu jie is about to embark on
her own enterprise. I will not say anything. You also have to keep it a
secret.’
Zhengqing was mollified; black lines appeared
on his head. He wasn’t a gossip. But, Wu Fei liking Huizhu? Where had she got
that from?
‘But they have a difference
in age of six to seven years, it’s a lot.’ He said.
‘You can’t be so old-fashioned.
It’s okay for men, not for a woman to be the elder? What are six or seven
years? The most important thing is that they like each other and if you do like
each other, the age gap is not a problem. If they don’t like each other, then
there is nothing. Zhu sister is intelligent and passionate; Wu Fei is calm and
steady. I think they would suit.’
‘A six or seven year gap is not a
problem? How about a nine year gap?’ Zhengqing probed.
Yin Ting’s heart began to thump in
her chest, but she deliberately played a fool, ‘The man is nine years older or
the woman?’
Zhengqing’s heart was also beating
hard against his chest as he replied, ‘The man.’
Yin Ting felt her face flush, ‘It’s
alright, ah. He would be very mature and stable. He would be more considerate
of her and others, and will love and care for his wife. It would be good.’ The
words became harder to say towards the end, because she had become very
abashed.
Zhengqing watched Yin Ting to see if he could
read her expression. He was hopeful that she might feel the same was about him,
‘He will certainly love his wife,’
he repeated. But just like Yin Ting, he suddenly felt very shy. (Zuben: Aren’t
you silly lovebirds supposed to be making tea?)
The two of the stared at each other
surrounded by an intangible feeling.
He will love his wife very much
They unintentionally stumbled into
a discussion between lovers.
Yin Ting’s heart was throbbing with
sweetness and she got shy. (Zuben: That kettle is sure as hell taking a long
time to boil. Is it even on yet?)
Thank you for taking up this project. I was sad that the earlier translator dropped the novel . so thanks again. Now I just can't wait for the next chapter.
