41 Escape

Wang Yu could see her reluctance and pretence, but he didn’t confront her. Instead, he cooperated with her, playing the role of her caring boyfriend.

For the next few days, she carried on as normal, going to the cake shop and back. The other men came to visit her one after the other, but she was not friendly to any of them.

They all believed she was still angry, but as long as she didn’t do anything extreme, she would get over it soon.

One afternoon, almost two weeks after that night, Su Yue returned home inconspicuously, and took her Grandma out.

The first person to find something was amiss was Li An. He had insisted on apologising to Su Yue everyday since the incident, hoping to return be allowed to at the very least work at the cake shop, after she had dismissed him.

He came bearing gifts and knocked on the door of Su Yue’s apartment. After what felt like a bit too long, there was no response. He knew Su Yue herself would not open the door, but grandma Su liked him, and would not leave him outside so long.

His intuition told him something was wrong. He quickly texted the steam-bun alliance, and they quickly made their way over.

Lu Ran called a locksmith to break open the door.

When they entered, they found the furniture and some personal items left, but some clothing was gone. The water, gas and electricity had been shut.

The men panicked, each of them started to think of how to find out where she had gone.

Their search around town lasted till late evening, but there was no success. Sitting in her living room waiting for news, Wang Quan got a call, they all sat up thinking it was good news, but it was Wang Yu.

Wang Yu had heard from his team what Wang Quan was looking for Su Yue, he tried to call Su Yue himself and found her number had been disconnected. He quickly left his office and headed to Su Yue’s flat.

‘What’s going on, why are you looking for Su Yue? Have you found her?’ he asked as soon as Wang Quan picked up.

Although Wang Quan and the others were unhappy with him, they knew he had more connections and resources than they did.

‘Su Yue and her grandma have gone missing, uncle.’ Wang Yu announced, ‘Li An came to see her, and no one was answering. He called us, we got a locksmith to break the lock, and found she’s run away.’

Hearing this Wang Yu had a deep sense of foreboding, ‘I’m on my way to Su Yue’s now. In the meantime, I’ll hire investigators.’

As soon as he hung up the call, he called his secretary to hire private investigators to find Su Yue. Like the other men, Wang Yu was full of regret and anxious. They had to act fast because the longer she was missing, the harder it would be to find her.

He knew she had planned this. Because she didn’t explode or overreact, they had gotten complacent, thinking she would get over it quickly. But she had bided her time, forbearing, pretending to lower her guard and while they were all busy, she escaped.

His secretary called back,

‘Sir, the police can’t locate them. The sim cards registered to their names must has been destroyed.’

Wang Yu’s hands began to tremble, and a cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

‘Tell them to keep looking, and get those private investigators going.’

‘Yes, sir.’

He hung up and leaned back against the backrest. He pinched between his brow as a headache began to take root.

He arrived at Su Yue’s apartment complex and quickly hurried inside where the others were waiting.

‘This is all your fault! All of you!’ he declared as soon as he entered, ‘if you hadn’t tried to trap her, this wouldn’t have happened.’

The others got angry as soon as he spoke, while Wang Quan and Li An did not dare speak, Lu Ran, Shen Chen and Li Rui did not hold back,

‘Our fault?!’ Shen Chen shouted back, ‘If you hadn’t gotten greedy, wanting her all for yourself, we wouldn’t have had to resort to that!’

‘Mr High and Mighty thinking he’s better than us,’ Lu Ran interjected, ‘we’re all having a good time, but no, you had to come and ruin it with your lover boy act.’

‘Trying to play “captain save-a-hoe”’ Li Rui added.

Wang Yu punched him, Li Rui punched back and it devolved into a physical fight. As it was three against one, Wang Yu was beaten up, but none of the others made it out unscathed. They all had black eyes and bloodied busted lips.

The fight spent the anger and left exhaustion. Despite their disputes, they had to find Su Yue. Wang Yu was back in the alliance, they needed him and his power to find her.

But as months passed and as much money was spent, Su Yue was nowhere to be found.

42 Pregnant with Twins.

In a leisurely sea-side town, Grandma Su came to pick Su Yue up from work at her little café.

Su Yue was heavily pregnant in her last trimester. Though she had been advised not to go to work, she still did. Fortunately, that day was her last day at work. Su Yue had promised to arrange everything at work so she could spend the rest of her pregnancy getting ready for the babies to arrive.

Su Yue’s mother, her daughter, had also given birth to Su Yue out of wedlock. She had also grappled with the decision whether to keep the baby or not. She decided to keep the baby, and they were blessed with a considerate little girl.

Though times had been hard, they got through it, but Su Yue’s mother fell sick and died leaving grandma Su to raise Su Yue.

At least, this time, Su Yue had her savings, and her shop was doing well. She wasn’t without resources to raise a child.

But she broached the subject of that happened in A City, but instead of answering Su Yue made her swear she would not contact and tell the men in A city where they were.

She could only sit back and be obedient to her granddaughter’s wishes.

The reached a consensus, and began to look forward to the arrival of the new member of their family. But when they went for her first antenatal scan, they found Su Yue was carrying twins.

Although there was more pressure, they looked forward to the babies’ arrival.

Now, Su Yue was very big, she walked slowly as they made their way back to their house.

‘Don’t worry, grandma, I don’t have to go to work anymore until after my confinement. Xiao Yi will be managing the shop.’

Her body had become heavy and it was time to rest.
